Second Hale Nani Escapee Captured in Hilo

Police this morning captured the second of two inmates who escaped last week from a Hilo jail.

Acting on a tip, police located Robert Carlos Garcia at about 10:25 a.m. at a home on Ohai Street in Hilo.

Garcia, 23, attempted to flee from officers but was captured following a brief pursuit.

He was charged this afternoon with escape, with his bail set at $10,000. He was also arrested but not charged for a drug offense.

Garcia and Andrew Wanat escaped from the Hale Nani correctional facility south of Hilo on Sept. 4.

Wanat was captured two days later in Kona.
