The cost of riding the county’s Hele-On Bus system will go up on Monday, July 1.

The standard fare will be $2. For students, persons 60 years and older, and certified disabled individuals the fare will be $1.

There is no charge for children under the age of 5.

Standard monthly passes cost $60 but will be $45 for students, seniors and the disabled.

For information contact the Hawaii County Transit Agency at 961-8744.

Fares currently are $1 for general ridership and free for all others.

The fare increases were approved recently by the Hawaii County Council to raise additional revenues for the county’s transit system, which is subsidized by county taxpayers.

From 2005 to 2011, bus ridership was free.
