Biz Wrap: Lex Brodies Opens Fast Lube Store
This week marked the 50th anniversary of National Small Business Week. As part of its efforts to help grow small businesses, Hawaii Small Business Development Center will offer a free workshop next week on how to write a business plan.
In other business news, Hilo Coffee Mill was recognized by TripAdvisor for their excellent customer service, and Lex Brodie’s Tires has launched the first of its Fast Lube stores on the island.
Business Plan Workshop June 26 in Honoka‘a
The Hawai‘i Small Business Development Center will present a free workshop on “How to Write a Business Plan” Wednesday, June 26, in Honoka‘a at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center at 45-539 Plumeria St.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the seminar running from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Participants will learn how to develop a business plan or revise an existing one with step-by-step instructions. The session will include business plan financials.

Lex Brodie’s Fast Lube Grand Opening June 28
Lex Brodie’s Fast Lube in Kailua-Kona will hold a grand opening celebration on Friday, June 28.
Specializing in oil changes and other preventative maintenance repairs, the store is located at 75-5570 Kuakini Hwy.
According to Lance McQuirk, director of Fast Lube Operations for Lex Brodie’s, the facility is the first Lex Brodie’s fast lube on the island and represents a new division within the national chain.
As part of the grand opening next Friday, the store will provide free hot dogs and soda, as well as free car washes. In addition, every day next week the store will hold a daily drawing for a $100 gas card, and a $500 gas card will be given away on Saturday, June 29.
McQuirk said that over the next two years, Lex Brodie’s plans to open three additional fast lube outlets on the Big Island in Waimea, Pahoa and Hilo.
Hilo Coffee Mill Receives Travel Award
Hilo Coffee Mill has received a 2013 Certificate of Excellence award from TripAdvisor.
Situated on 24 acres in Mountain View, the company produces and processes coffee for area farmers. In addition to selling coffee, it operates a café on site and host a weekly farmers market every Saturday morning.
To qualify for a Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travelers on TripAdvisor. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months. The travel site issues the award to only the top 10% of reviewed companies on its site.
