Police have released without charges a Honomu man arrested Thursday night in connection with the robbery earlier that day of a Pepeekeo credit union.

Kris R. Villasista, 37, had turned himself in at the Kona police station at about 6 p.m. Thursday.

Police had announced earlier in the day that they were investigating the robbery of the Hamakua Coast Community Credit Union.

That incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday when a man wearing a green cloth over his face threatened two tellers with what appeared to be a handgun. He then fled the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police today said they released Villasista on Saturday.

The investigation into the robbery is continuing.
