Police this morning said a report today by a local radio station that Saddle Road had been closed by a lava flow was an April Fool’s joke.

Mauna Loa is not erupting and there are no lava flows in the area of Saddle Road.

The police department said it received 911 calls Monday morning in response to the joke, which the radio station, Native FM, soon retracted.

The false announcement was done on the radio station’s Facebook page, and was not carried on its broadcast.

The police department initially said that it had received numerous 911 calls on the matter but issued a clarification this afternoon deleting the word “numerous.”

***Updated to indicate that the prank was made on a Facebook page and not over the air, and that “numerous” 911 calls had not been received.***
