Police are continuing to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Ahualoa Tuesday night.

Police have not yet released the identity of a resident of the home whose remains were found in a bedroom after the fire was extinguished.

Police today said a medical examiner will be recovering DNA during an autopsy to confirm the person’s identity.

Involved in the ongoing investigation into the fire are evidence specialists, a fire inspector and a dog which specializes in the detection of fire accelerants, police said.

Firefighters arriving at the home on Kahana Drive in upper Honokaa at 8:34 p.m. Tuesday found the house fully engulfed in flames. Police talking to residents of the area determined that an occupant of the home was missing.
