UPDATE: Ahualoa Fire Investigation Continues; Victim Not Yet Named
Police are continuing to investigate the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Ahualoa Tuesday night.
Police have not yet released the identity of a resident of the home whose remains were found in a bedroom after the fire was extinguished.
Police today said a medical examiner will be recovering DNA during an autopsy to confirm the person’s identity.
Involved in the ongoing investigation into the fire are evidence specialists, a fire inspector and a dog which specializes in the detection of fire accelerants, police said.
Firefighters arriving at the home on Kahana Drive in upper Honokaa at 8:34 p.m. Tuesday found the house fully engulfed in flames. Police talking to residents of the area determined that an occupant of the home was missing.
The house was completely destroyed. Damage was estimated at $300,000.
