Firefighters responding to a report of smoke at an abandoned home in the Ainaloa subdivision Friday extinguished a fire that was intentionally set.

Capt. Paul Austria of the Pahoa station said the fire was located in the closet and bath of the 800-square-foot structure’s master bedroom.

Fire crews arriving at the home at 16-2541 Ainaloa Drive at 4:19 p.m. had the fire extinguished five minutes later.

Damage was estimated at $8,000.

Police and a fire department inspector were investigating the cause of the fire.
