Honda is recalling 572,000 of its Accord models to fix a faulty power steering hose that can leak and cause a fire. The recall involves 2003-2007 models.

However, the replacement hose will not be available until early next year. Beginning in late October, owners of the affected vehicles will receive notification by mail of the problems and related symptoms. If an Accord owner believes that their vehicle may be showing those symptoms, they will be advised to take it to their local Honda dealer for inspection and a temporary repair if necessary.

The owners will be notified again to come in for a free repair when the replacement parts become available.

According to Honda, exposure to high temperatures under the hood and high steering fluid temperatures can, over time, cause the hose to deteriorate and leak. That can result in loss of power steering assistance or a fire if the fluid leaks onto a catalytic converter.

One engine fire has occurred as a result of the leak but no crashes or injuries have been reported, Honda said.

A similar recall was previously issued for 2007-2008 Acura TL models.

Honda owners can determine if their vehicle is included in the recall by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling 800-999-1009 and selecting option 4.
