A malfunctioning well in Ocean View has forced the county Department of Water Supply to temporarily curtail use of the standpipe there for commercial water hauling.
The well, which was first brought into service for Ka`u residents’ use in early July, broke down Monday morning. Engineers are still trying to determine the cause of the problem.
The department said it is continuing to monitor the level of water in the reservoir. Drinking water spigots currently remain open for community access but commercial water haulers are being diverted to standpipes in either Naalehu or Hookena.
