County water service will be turned off between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday in a portion of Honokaa.

The area to be affected includes customers on Plumeria Road from Highway 19 to Olopua Place, which is located just mauka of Hale Ho`ola Hamakua, formerly known as Honoka`a Hospital.  Affected areas also include the Nomoku  and Honoka`a Knolls subdivisions, and the Honoka`a Transfer Station.

The shut-off is needed to do work on the first phase of the Ahualoa-Honoka`a Transmission Waterline project.

When service resumes, waterlines will be flushed and cleaned, which would result in turbid or discolored water, and the possibility of air trapped in plumbing.

Affected customers may need to take precautions such as disabling electrical power to pumps or other devices whose normal operation is dependent on water pressure or supply.
