Three UHH Students Receive Study-Abroad Scholarships

Three University of Hawai`i at Hilo students are the recipients of scholarships to study abroad.

Hi`inae Miller, Ron O’Brien and Mitchell Sambrano were each awarded $5,000 through the Benjamin A. Gilman Study Abroad Scholarship program.

Miller, who majors in kinesiology with a minor in English, will study this upcoming academic year at University of Essex in Colchester, England.

O’Brien, who is focusing on tropical horticulture at UHH’s College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management, will study at Uppsala University in Sweden.

Sambrano will study Japanese language and culture at Tokyo Gakugei University.

The prestigious Gilman scholarships target students in fields that are typically under-represented, such as science and engineering, and also focuses on students with diverse ethnic backgrounds and disabilities.
