Burglaries Increasing in Waiakea Houselots, Police Say

Police today advised residents of the Waiakea Houselots area of Hilo to be on the lookout for burglars.
The area has seen an increase in break-ins since May, police said. The crimes including people entering through windows to steal jewelry and other items.
Residents are advised to reduce their risk by locking all doors and windows before they leave home.
The police department plans to send notifications to the area’s residents using the county Civil Defense Agency’s automated telephone notification system.
Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to call Det. James Correa at 961-2289.
