Local authorities are investigating a reported shooting near the Hawaiian Acres subdivision on Tuesday.

The incident was reported to police by a 47-year-old Volcano man, who said that he was traveling with his family on Road 10 when he heard a gunshot and felt something impact his van. When he realized that one of his van’s windows was shattered, he drove off and called police.

Two men were arrested near the scene of the incident. A 68-year-old Hilo man and a 47-year-old Kurtistown male were taken in. The Kurtistown resident was released after prosecutors conferred with police, while the 68-year-old man is still in custody while the investigation continues. The investigation is currently described as a first degree reckless endangerment case.
