Cultures dazzled onstage at the University of Hawai’i Pacific Arts Center on February 17. Those that missed Friday night’s performance have one more chance to catch cultures that span the globe on on February 18 at 7:30 p.m. This year Hawai’i, Samoa, Philippines, Norway, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Palau and Ireland, among others will represent their colorful backgrounds and traditions.

A special group from Indonesia will perform excerpts from the Randai play, “The Genteel Sabai.” It is a traditional folk dance-drama that depicts a daughter seeking revenge for her murdered father.

Through live performance, music, song, dance, martial arts and readings, these excerpts will express their very personal relationship to their heritage, ethnicity and environmental influences.

Tickets sell quickly and advance ticket purchase is recommended. The cost is $10 general and $5 for children, students and seniors. The UHH Theatre is located on campus at 200 W. Kawili Street in Hilo. Call 974-7414 for more information, or visit artscenter.uhh.hawaii.edu. The box office has moved due to construction, and is located near the loading dock.
