Fire Damages Kinoole Street Home Thursday Night

A house at 1521 Kinoole St. in Hilo sustained heavy damage Thursday night from a fire of undetermined origin.

Paramedics from the Kawailani Street fire station arriving at the scene at 10:26 p.m. first observed flames in the porch area. As more firefighters arrived they found that flames had spread to the upstairs bedroom and also to the downstairs living area.

The residents of the home, described as a two-story home with multiple studio rental rooms, were able to evacuate the building safely.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Damage was estimated at $80,000 to the $200,000 home.
