Senator Brian Schatz announced his endorsement for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as the next President of the United States on Thursday morning.

The Senator noted climate change as one of the leading factors for his endorsement.

“Hillary Clinton’s record of addressing climate change, protecting the environment, and promoting clean energy, as well her personal connections to Hawai’i and the Pacific, led to my endorsement of her presidential candidacy,” Senator Schatz said. “In Hawai’i, we understand that climate change has already impacted our ocean, our coasts, our weather, and even our public health.

“I am confident that an administration led by Hillary Clinton would tackle climate change globally and bolster our local efforts to achieve the goals set forth in Hawai’i’s Clean Energy Initiative, address the problems caused by sea level rise and beach erosion, and prepare Hawai’i to deal with public health challenges and severe weather.”

Senator Schatz is the latest to announce his support for Clinton this week, joining support from the Hawai’i Women’s Caucus and nearly 100 Hawai’i Filipino-American leaders, including former Hawai’i Governor Ben Cayetano.
