The Hawai’i Police Department and Hawai’i Fire Department responded to reports of a hazardous odor at Waiakea Intermediate School on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

At about 1:08 p.m., a hazardous odor was reported on the campus and at least one person complained of dizziness.

Fire department Hazardous Material Specialists searched the area for the source and, after a few minutes, determined that the origin of the smell was likely to have originated off-campus and traveled to the school proximity by wind. The smell was gone within a few minutes and there were no apparent lingering effects of odor.

Students and faculty received the all clear at about 1:53 p.m.
