The Hawaii Police Department has scheduled two more “active shooter” presentations designed to help Big Island residents prepare for violent situations.

One will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. tonight at the Waimea Community Center at 65-1260 Kawaihae Rd.

The other is scheduled for 5-6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 7, at the Keaau Community Center located behind the Keaau Police Station.

The presentations are intended to raise awareness to help individuals increase their survivability should they encounter violent situations including someone shooting a firearm, the department said.

“The presentation will provide information on previous incidents of mass violence, recent events, best practices for those caught in such a situation, understanding law enforcement’s response, and how to work together as a community to prevent these critical events from happening,” it said.

The public will also be provided with additional information on how to further their education on the subject, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Similar presentations were held in Kona in May and last month in Hilo.
