Elderly Waimea man dies in riding lawn mower accident

An elderly Waimea man died earlier this weekend in a riding lawn mower accident at his home. Big Island police are investigating the fatal incident.

South Kohala patrol officers and Hawai‘i Fire Department personnel responded at about 1:15 p.m. March 30 to a residence off the 64-5200 block of Nani Waimea Street in Waimea to a report of a 78-year-old man who was unresponsive and pinned under a riding lawn mower.

Upon their arrival, Fire Department medics determined the man was dead.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
