Hilo’s Andrews Gym Opens Following Repairs

The Joseph G. Andrews Gym in Hilo has been reopened following renovations.

Repairs to the popular county gym at Waiakeawaena Park included cleaning and re-waxing of the floor as well as painting of new lines for various sports.

The Department of Parks and Recreation also repaired termite damage and installed new basketball backboards.

The gym at 33 West Kawailani St. is open Monday through Sunday and offers a variety of programs including:

  • Basketball Shooting Clinic (ages 9-14) Wednesdays 4-5:30 p.m.
  • Volleyball (ages 7-14) Thursdays 3:30-5 p.m.
  • Craft clubs (ages 5-12) Thursdays 5:30-6:30 p.m.
  • Speed and Agility workshops (ages 7-14) Saturdays 2-4 p.m.
