Several members of the state Board of Education will hold a community meeting Thursday at the Waiakea Intermediate School cafeteria.

The meeting scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. will give parents, teachers and the general public an opportunity to discuss educational issues with board members and Valerie Takata, superintendent of the Department of Education’s Hilo-Waiakea Complex Area.

Brian De Lima, the board’s vice-chairman and Hawaii Island representative, has confirmed he will be attending.

Topics of discussion will include an update on the Strive HI Performance System, which was approved by the federal government in May to replace outdated aspects of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, as well as core instruction and the state’s library system.

Waiakea Intermediate School is located at 200 W. Puainako Street in Hilo.
