Police said Friday that a 22-year-old Alaska man reported as missing Thursday was reportedly seen camping with Brittany-Jane Royal before her body was found floating in the water off the coast of Kalapana earlier this week.

Police said as a result, they want to question Boaz D. Johnson about the matter.

Johnson’s family had told police that the last time they spoke to him was at noon on Monday.

Royal was found Tuesday morning caught up in a fishing line near the area where lava from Kilauea volcano is entering the ocean at Kalapana.

An autopsy indicated that she had been strangled, and police have initiated a murder investigation.

Police identified Royal through her fingerprints.
