The well that was brought online last year in Ka`u needs a new pump, the county Department of Water Supply said today.

An inspection by a county contractor of the pump brought out of the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates well on Wednesday has determined that it and the motor need replacing, department spokeswoman Kanani Aton said.

The timetable for that replacement is not yet known, Aton said.

In the meantime, residents of the area will need to travel to spigot stations in Waiohinu or Hookena for potable water, as the reservoir in HOVE has dropped to minimum levels meaning spigots there have been shut off.

The well broke down on April 2.

It was first put into service in June 2012.
