UPDATE: Man Clearing Lot Killed by Falling Tree

A 32-year-old Hilo man helping to clear a lot belonging to a relative in Hawaiian Paradise Park died Monday from injuries sustained after he was hit by a falling tree.

Police said Methodius Suda was trying to fell an albizia tree when an ohia tree leaning against it fell and struck him in the head. The ohia tree was about nine inches in diameter and 30 to 40 feet tall, police said.

Paramedics from the Hawaiian Paradise Park Fire Station initiated CPR and used a utility vehicle to take the man 150 feet to a waiting ambulance which transported him to Hilo Medical Center. He was prounounced dead at 4:45 p.m.
