The National Weather service have extended the island’s high surf advisory until 6 p.m., with waves of 7 to 10 feet still expected.

Hawai‘i Island police launch a negligent homicide investigation

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle near the intersection of Waiānuenue Avenue and Rainbow Drive on Thursday night.

Traffic signal utility pole replacement on Waiānuenue Avenue

On Dec. 6, the replacement activity will be concentrated at the Hilo High School entrance driveway on Waiānuenue Avenue. On Dec. 8, the focus will shift to the Hilo Intermediate School entrance driveway.

Police seeking runaway Serenity Salmo-Kaawa

Serenity Salmo-Kaawa, 15, was last seen in Hilo on May 18.

The 2022-23 school year begins Monday, Aug. 1, and with it comes a change in traffic flow for a portion of the mornings on a Hilo roadway while school is in session.
