Update: Ocean View murder victim identified; police continue investigation
The remains of a man discovered Oct. 18 on a property on Tiki Lane were those of 56-year-old Wayne Richard Moriarty, also known as Arthur Hackett, of Ocean View. A forensic pathologist determined Moriarty’s death was caused by a gunshot wound and ruled it a homicide.

58-year-old Shawn Edward Page allegedly shot at Big Island police officers during the incident at a residence in the 11-3000 block of Nahelenani Street in Volcano that began the morning of Oct. 9.
Update: Hāwī transfer station to remain closed through at least next 2 days
It is uncertain whether the Hāwī transfer station will reopen after Wednesday. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Update: Kīlauea eruption within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has paused
The new eruption first began at about 12:30 a.m. today. The most recent eruption in this region was in December 1974, which lasted only about 6 hours. At this time, it is not possible to say how long this new eruption will last.
Young Brothers updates cargo availability as unfavorable ocean conditions continue
Because of the delayed arrival in Hilo, regularly scheduled Hilo to Honolulu sailing will now depart today and is estimated to arrive Wednesday in Honolulu. There are no changes to cargo acceptance or gate hours at the Port of Hilo.

Update: Transgender man previously reported as missing found in Rhode Island
Reign Walker was last seen May 19 in Hilo on the Big Island. Police reported Sept. 2 that the transgender man was found in good health on the mainland.
Maui wildfires update: Six more victims identified; Lāhainā death toll remains at 115
A total of 49 individuals killed in the deadliest U.S. wildfire in the past century have now been identified, with 22 still pending family notification. The number of unaccounted for is between 1,000 and 1,100, according to officials.

The Maui Police Department confirmed Thursday afternoon that 71-year-old Donna Gomes of Lahaina is the latest victim of the deadly wildfires to be named.

As of 5 p.m. Thursday, Dora was 1,070 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, or 2,130 miles east-southeast of Hilo, traveling west at about 18 mph and was continued to do so for the next several days.
