Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises Thanksgiving air travelers to plan ahead and give themselves extra time with more people and limited parking expected.

During the past few days, people have taken to social media to complain about long security lines at the airport; Hawai‘i Department of Transportation, Transportation Security Administration quiet about how equipment problems are being addressed.

41-year-old Akito Fukushima of Kanazawa, Japan, who was departing the country early Tuesday morning when the grenades were detected in his bag, was arrested for first-degree terroristic threatening and transported to to the East Hawai’i Detention Facility in Hilo. He remains in custody.

This mock travel day was meant as a fun activity to help children with autism get more comfortable with the process of going through the airport — starting from the ticket counter, to going through security, and agriculture to boarding a plane and ending at baggage claim.
