Flash flooding and potential for a few thunderstorms in forecast through this afternoon as deep tropical moisture stalled over Kauaʻi Channel combines with passing disturbance aloft.
Rain, rain here to stay for windward Big Island
A plume of tropical moisture combined with a low level trough and an upper level trough look to all line up to bring the best chance of heavy rain and a slight chance of thunderstorms to windward Big Island today through Tuesday, with a cold front stalling over the state later this week bringing a period of wet trade winds.

Flood advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. today for east and southeastern slopes; high pressure moving in from north-northeast to usher in return to more typical trade wind weather later today.

Hurricane Hone brought rain and wind to Hawai‘i Island resulting in flooding in several areas over the weekend.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kapa‘au, Honoka‘a, Pāpa‘ikou, Honomū, Pepe‘ekeo, Mountain View, Glenwood, Hakalau, Volcano, Nīnole, Kea‘au, Laupāhoehoe, Hawaiian Acres, ‘Ō‘ōkala, Orchidlands Estates, Pa‘auilo and Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
Update: Flood advisory canceled for various portions of Big Island
Radar shows that heavy rain has diminished in the Ka‘ū, Hilo and Puna districts as well as the interior of the Big Island.

Heavy rains diminish over East Hawaiʻi; flood threat shifts to west, north Big Isle
Flash flood warnings were in effect late Friday night and into early Saturday morning for portions of North and South Kohala and Hāmākua as heavy rain and thunderstorms moved over the districts.

At 3:56 p.m., radar indicated areas of moderate to heavy rain, and a few thunderstorms, over the lower Kona slopes from Kailua-Kona to Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.

Flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat. Therefore the flood watch has been canceled for the Big Island.

At 12:39 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain over downslope portions of the North Kona and South Kohala Districts.

A Flood Advisory means minor flooding is imminent or occurring.
UPDATE No. 4: Calvin now a post-tropical cyclone; Big Island no longer under tropical storm warning
Tropical storm conditions have ended. Locally gusty winds will likely continue today before easing tonight, with additional rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches possible on the Big Island as what was Calvin moves away from the state to the west.
UPDATE No. 6: Calvin now 140 miles south of Hilo; flood advisory issued for eastern portions of Big Island
As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, Tropical Storm Calvin was about 140 miles south of Hilo on the Big Island with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.
