Puna man accused of assaulting father with knife and stick
Hawai‘i Island police officers came in contact with the victim at Hilo Medical Center on Friday. The 57-year-old man told Hilo Patrol officers that his son, later identified as 30-year-old Mark Nakoa Akina, assaulted him at a residence on Paniolo Street during the evening hours of Wednesday and into the later afternoon hours of Thursday.
Couple displaced after a structure fire in East Hawai‘i
At 8:53 p.m., Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the structure fire, located in Eden Roc on the 15-1700 block of 24th Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, they found a 1,500-square-foot, single-story wooden structure on fire.
