Pāhoa pool closed because of tephra from recent Kīlauea lava fountaining episode

Ash and Pele’s hair continue to collect in the pool as it is blown from the roofs of nearby structures, trees and across open areas of the park; integrity of the pool’s filtration system also is in question.

Young Brothers: Port of Hilo facility reopens

A routine inspection by the U.S. Coast Guard late Monday turned up an issue with the fire suppression system at the shipping company’s port facility.

One lane of Hawaiʻi Belt Road in Pepeʻekeo closed until further notice

The area closed is from within 100 feet of Kapuʻe Stream Bridge on the Hilo side to Mill Road on the Hāmākua side of the bridge.

Kaʻūmana Cave County Park in Hilo closed because of partial collapse

The collapse appears to be in the area near the entrance to the cave. No injuries have been reported.

Flood advisory issued for portion of Big Island; Waipiʻo Valley Access Road, portion of Highway 270 closed

According to the National Weather Service, radar indicated heavy rain over portions of North Kona, North and South Kohala and Hāmākua at 4:46 p.m. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
