Residents without recent travel histories are allowed some freedom to travel out of their homes for the purposes of exercise and to address essential needs, such as buying groceries and picking up prescriptions. Those under quarantine based on travel do not have the same freedoms.

Mayor Harry Kim has agreed to close county beaches beginning Saturday but made no move to force businesses that attract social gathering to close down.

This covers hundreds of tour operators, surf and SUP schools, sight-seeing, whale-watching and dinner cruises, and any commercial operation operating in state ocean waters.

“As Mayor, you are the only person who has the direct authority to institute these actions.”

The fewer people who heed health advice means more strain on the hospital system, which Park said is already reporting burn rates that will see some hospitals run out of personal protective equipment (PPEs) within two weeks to one month. 

Epidemiologists aren’t the only scientists that see potential problems with Kim’s plan, and humans aren’t the only living species that could be negatively impacted by it.
