First it was a record cool day, and now a record hot one.

November is keeping the National Weather Service hopping.

The temperature today in Hilo reached 88 degrees, two more than the previous record for Nov. 27.

The old record of 86 degrees was set in 1968 and tied in 1977.

This comes 15 days after a record cool temperature was set in Hilo.

On Nov. 12, the temperature never rose above 74 degrees, three degrees cooler than the previous low maximum temperature for that date.

The warmest November day ever – since the weather service began keeping track of such things here in 1946 – occurred on Nov. 7, 1996, when the thermometer hit a scorching 92 degrees.

Except for a 90-degree reading on Nov. 18, 1985, the top temperature has never otherwise risen out of the 80s in November in the Big Island’s city by the bay.
