No Advisories After Two 3+ Magnitude Big Isle Quakes
Two 3+ magnitude earthquakes were reported within 15 minutes of each other in the Hawaiʻi Island area this morning.
The first preliminary magnitude 3.6 earthquake was reported at 9 a.m. today about three miles south of Volcano on Hawaiʻi Island, according to the US Geological Survey.
The quake occurred at a depth of 2.5 miles and was located 22 miles southwest of Hawaiian Paradise Park; 25 miles south-southwest of Hilo; 52 miles east-southeast of Kailua-Kona; and 215 miles southeast of Honolulu, Oʻahu, according to the USGS.
The second, preliminary magnitude 3.2 magnitude quake was reported at 9:13 a.m. today at a depth of about seven miles, and was located 44 miles west of Kalaoa, Hawaiʻi (or 68 miles south of Kīhei; and 73 miles south of Lahaina, Maui), according to the USGS.
There were no immediate advisories issued for either event.
This comes following a separate magnitude 3.5 earthquake reported at 8:36 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, 11 miles south of Fern Acres on Hawaiʻi Island.
