Pahoa Public Pool Set to Re-Open August 26

For Pahoa-area families, weekends are about to get just a little wetter.

After closing to undertake a $1.5 million restoration project, the Pahoa Community Aquatic Center is set to re-open on Monday, Aug. 26.

The renovation, which included the installation of solar heating panels to help warm the pool water, was performed by Isemoto Contracting. In addition to the solar panels, new filtration pumps were installed.

County employees also performed roof repairs, repainted interiors, and completed various other cosmetic improvements.

The pool will be reopened after a brief ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26. Free swimming for all ages will be available that day until 5:30 p.m.

The following day, new operating hours will take effect. The pool will be open on weekdays from 9 a.m. till 5:30 p.m., and on weekends from 9 a.m. till 4:30 p.m.

Beginner swim team registration begins on Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., and a water aerobics course will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
