Kolten Wong to Suit Up for St. Louis Friday
Kolten Wong will finally get his chance to prove that he is major league ready.
First reported by KHON2, the St. Louis Cardinals are calling up Wong from Triple-A Memphis. He hit .303 in 107 games this season for the Redbirds, hitting 10 home runs and driving in 45 runs. He also has 20 stolen bases on the season.
The Hilo native has rapidly pushed through the Cardinals’ farm system. He has spent no longer than a year at each minor league level. He has represented the Cardinals each of the last two seasons at the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, the featured prospect showcase prior to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Wong’s promotion to the major league roster comes at an important time for the Cardinals. St. Louis sits two games behind the Pittsburgh Pirates in the race for the NL Central division title. The Cardinals, currently with a record of 69-51, currently hold one of the two NL Wild Card positions.
Wong is expected to join the Cardinals Friday when St. Louis visits the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. First pitch is scheduled for 10:05 a.m. Hawai`i time.
