UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed on Highway 11 in Glenwood Identified

Police have identified a man who died Friday night after being struck by a truck in Glenwood as 45-year-old Robert S. Silva of Mountain View.
Police said Silva was in the north-bound lane near the 20-mile maker on Highway 11 when he was struck by a 1998 Peterbuilt truck hauling water.
At the time of the collision, police were already en route to the scene in response to a report of a man running on the roadway.
Neither the 49-year-old man driving the truck nor his passenger, his 48-year-old wife, were injured.
Police do not suspect alcohol, drugs or speeding were factors in the case as far as the driver is concerned.
A negligent homicide investigation has been opened, as is standard in such cases, and an autopsy has been ordered.

This was the 13th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared to 14 at this time in 2012.

Around 7:40 p.m. Friday evening, the Hawaii Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a man wandering through traffic on Highway 11 in Volcano.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene a few minutes later to find a middle-aged man lying in the center of the highway with no signs of life, apparently the a result of a vehicle-pedestrian accident.
Rescuers initiated CPR, and transported the man to Hilo Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Weather conditions at the time of the incident were reportedly poor, with misty rain, fog and no street lights present in the area of the accident, which occurred near the 20-mile marker in a rural area of Glenwood.
Police officers closed both lanes of the highway for several hours to conduct an investigation. The victim has yet to be identified.
