New Hilo Adult Care Center Receives State Grant

Recipients of state lawmakers’ grants-in-aid for construction projects includes $1 million toward construction of a new Hilo Adult Day Care Center, the Legislature announced this week.

The funding is earmarked for the center to be built by the non-profit Hawaii Island Community Development Corp. adjacent to the Mohouli Heights Senior Neighborhood under development just above Komohana Street.

Other Big Island projects in the $32 million list of capital improvement projects include:

• $1.5 million to the Kahilu Theatre Foundation for design and construction to improve existing facilities
• $270,000 to the Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council for improvements to its Hilo and Naalehu offices, and for the purchase of vehicles for the non-profit’s transportation programs
• $30,000 to the Brantley Center for renovation of facilities in Honoka`a

Nearly all of the funding for the state grants-in-aid comes from the issuing of general obligation bonds.
