If you’re wondering why you had to bust out that extra blanket last night, blame northerly winds.

Those breezes are bringing cool, dry conditions to the Aloha State which are translating into some record low temperatures.

The thermometer dropped to 58 degrees at Hilo’s airport this morning, breaking the previous record low for April 2 of 60 degrees. That record had stood since 1953.

The National Weather Service said the 58 also tied the lowest temperature ever recorded at the airport during the month of April.

And Hilo isn’t the only place feeling the cool weather.

It was 61 degrees this morning at the Honolulu airport, one degree lower than the previous record for the date set in 2002.

Records were also broken or matched elsewhere in the state on Monday.

The 58 degrees at Kauai’s Lihue airport broke the previous record of 59 for April 1, while the Honolulu airport dipped to 62, tying the record for that date. Both were previously set in 2002.

Also, the 57 degrees recorded Monday at Maui’s Kahului airport tied the record low set in 1972.

And best not put those long-sleeved pajamas away just yet, as the low-pressure area to the northeast drawing in that cool air is expected to stick around for another couple of days.
