UPDATE: Missing Hiker Located in HPP Subdivision

Hawaii Fire Department personnel resumed their search this morning for a 36-year-old man who went missing yesterday off 11th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park.

The father of the missing hiker last saw his son enter an undeveloped property with thick brush and trees at the end of 11th Avenue (near Kaloli Drive) at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

After his son failed to return, the hiker’s father called 911 at 5 p.m. yesterday.

Both on-duty fire department and volunteer fire personnel searched the surrounding area, including roadways above and below 11th Avenue, but did not locate the missing man.

Chopper 1 continued the search this morning along with on-duty rescue personnel.

The missing man, identified by police as 36-year-old Chad Chun, was located today by family members using hunting dogs.

He was extricated to the trail head and treated for dehydration and minor cuts and scrapes by medics before being transported to Hilo Medical Center for further evaluation.
