Boys State Soccer Brackets Revealed
There will be a new Division II champion in the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts / Hawaii High School Athletic Association Boys Soccer Championships this week in Oahu.
Honoka`a High School, the winner of the last two state titles, did not qualify for the tournament this year, but the Big Island still received a top seed in this year’s field.
Konawaena High School, coming off of their 1-0 win over Christian Liberty in Saturday’s championship game, earned the tournament’s highest seed and will begin play Thursday in the eight-team tournament. The Wildcats will face Farrington of the Oahu Interscholastic Federation.
The Big Island Interscholastic Federation received three berths in the Division II field. Runner up Christian Liberty will play against third-seeded Kalaheo, also out of the OIA, while BIIF third-place school Hawai`i Preparatory Academy will face Kapa`a of the Kaua`i Interscholastic Federation.
Maui Interscholastic League champion Seabury Hall earned the tournament’s fourth seed and will face Mid-Pacific, also on Thursday.
In Division I, Mililani will defend their 2012 championship with this year’s top seed. The Trojans last year stopped a streak of seven consecutive championships won by an Interscholastic League of Honolulu school. Mililani will face either Kalani or Hilo, the BIIF’s runner-up, at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday night.
BIIF champion Kealakehe took the draw’s third seed and will open at 3:00 p.m. Thursday against the winner of the previous day’s Kapolei / Kaiser battle. ILH champion Punahou took the second seed while MIL winner Kamehameha-Maui earned the tournament’s final seeded position.
All games will be played at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex, with championship games being played Saturday on OC16.
