4.4 Magnitude Quake Hits South of Fern Acres
Big Islanders got a shaky start to the weekend this morning.
An estimated 4.4 magnitude earthquake occurred at approximately 4:37 a.m.
The quake originated on the south flank of Kilauea volcano, about 19 kilometers south of Fern Acres.
According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, no tsunami is expected.
However, according to the PTWC, the Hawaiian Islands may continue to experience small non-destructive sea level changes and strong or unusual currents lasting up to several hours this morning due to last night’s earthquake in Alaska.
