Hawaii Police Dept. Announce ‘Officers of the Month’

The Hawaii Police Department announced today its ‘Officers of the Month.’ The program is a project of the Aloha Exchange Club of Hilo.

Patrol officers Joshua Flores and Kevin Brodie were named ‘Officers of the Month’ for November after capturing a suspect who had been evading police.

In September of 2012, a woman reported having been beaten and choked by her boyfriend. Police attempted to track down the suspect, but he managed to escape them. On Oct. 3, officers Flores and Brodie found the suspect at a home in Paradise Park.

The suspect fled, with Flores and Brodie following in a foot pursuit. Both officers were injured by barbed wire during the pursuit but continued to give chase until apprehending the suspect, who was charged with multiple offenses including kidnapping and robbery.

Patrol Officer Keith Nacis was named as “Officer of the Month” for December. Nacis was honored for his initiative in traffic enforcement. In October, he issued 163 citations that accounted for 256 traffic offenses, including 13 motorists for driving under the influence.

As ‘Officer of the Month,’ Flores, Brodie and Nacis are all eligible for ‘Officer of the Year.’
