Police last week charged a former Hilo resident with robbery in connection with an incident that occurred in May.

Timothy “Timmy” Russ Southern Jr., 26, who police said has no permanent address, was also charged with first-degree assault and second-degree theft.

His bail was set at $85,000.

Police said the charges stem from a report from a 68-year-old Hilo man who told police that he was giving a ride to two people in Hilo at around 1 a.m. on May 25 when he was assaulted and his wallet was stolen.
