Kona Beach Steak House Opens in Kona
The Kona Beach Steak House opened last week in Kailua Kona.
The restaurant, located at 75-5669 Ali‘i Drive, replaces Shivalik Indian Cuisine, which had been in business at the same location for the past two years.
With a large oceanfront site that offers great views of Kailua Bay, the owners of Shivalik decided to switch gears and offer a steak house.
“Steak and seafood with a salad bar that’s reasonably priced is attractive to a local audience,” says food and beverage manager Corey Branch, who studied culinary arts at Kapiolani Community College.
“Lots of friends have suggested a steak place and we have a great waterfront location,” adds Branch.
Currently, the restaurant is featuring Black Angus beef from off island, although Branch said he is open to working with local ranchers to offer Big Island beef.
He points out that the restaurant already works with different local fishermen to provide fresh seafood depending on what is in season.
“We buy fish direct from three local fishermen,” says Branch.
“We’ll leave room on the menu for fisherman specials depending on what [fish] is running, whether it be ahi or ono.”
Noting that Shivalik had a steady following, the owners plan to reopen the Indian restaurant next year, ideally at a site close to the steak house.
Kona Beach Steak House is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more info contact 326-9889.
