Entrance Fees Waived at Hawaii Volcanoes This Weekend

Entrance fees will be waived for the upcoming Veteran’s  Day weekend at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Hawaii Volcanoes joins all 398 national park units across the nation in inviting veterans to “reconnect with their country” through their national parks on Saturday and Sunday.

“We are indebted to the sacrifices our veterans have made for our country’s freedom and heritage,” said park Superintendent Cindy Orlando.

The Big Island park counts dozens of veterans among its employees and volunteers.

Open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the park offers more than 150 miles of hiking trails and opportunities to view the volcanic landscape, native environment and Hawaiian culture that define the World Heritage Site.

Park spokeswoman Jessica Ferracane said more than a dozen free interpretive programs are offered daily as well as special events such as `Ike Hana No`eau cultural workshops, After Dark in the Park presentations, hula kahiko performances and Na Leo Manu “Heavenly Voices” concerts.

Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park is one of five national park units on the Island of Hawai‘i.

One, Pu‘uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park in Kona, is also waiving entrance fees this Veteran’s Day weekend.

There are no admission fees at Pu‘ukohola Heiau National Historic Site in South Kohala, Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park in North Kona, or along the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail at many coastal areas of the island.
