Beach Parks Reopened; No Tsunami Damage Reported
Beach parks on the Big Island have been reopened following Saturday night’s series of small tsunami waves, Hawaii County Civil Defense said at mid-morning today.
The parks were reopened after the county’s Ocean Safety Division evaluated ocean conditions.
The public should still use caution when swimming, boating or fishing in coastal areas, according to the advisory issued at 10:39 a.m.
State Civil Defense officials downgraded the tsunami warning to an advisory at 1:01 a.m. The advisory was cancelled at 3:58 a.m.
There were no reports of damage on the Big Island from the series of small waves, Barry Periatt, a staff officer for county Civil Defense, said this morning.
