Roadway improvements are set to get underway Monday at a busy mauka-makai roadway in Kona.

The work on Kaiminani Drive will begin just below its intersection with Highway 190, also known as Mamalahoa Highway. It will involve about a mile of the road, ending near Ahiahi Street, a spokeswoman for the county Department of Public Works said.

The $10 million project will include reconstruction of the roadway and drainage improvements that include six-foot-wide shoulders.

Contractor Jas W. Glover Ltd. will work with the US Postal Service, utility companies, county agencies and property owners on the temporary relocation of postal boxes and shut-offs of water and utility services. It will also coordinate with property owners on the removal or trimming of plants located in the road’s right-of-way.
