Kiawe Kitchen, a popular restaurant in the Volcano community, has closed its doors.

With a prime location close to the Volcanoes National Park entry road, the establishment was a frequent dining choice for tourists and the surrounding community. Famous for its open brick oven, hand-crafted pizzas, and espresso bar, the restaurant garnered largely positive reviews from both traditional travel publications and social media sites such as Yelp.

Leased by the owners of the adjacent Volcano Store, the location sits one street back from Highway 11, on the corner of Haunani and Old Volcano Road.

A Volcano Store manager indicated to Big Island Now that the owners are drawing up a new contract for prospective tenants, and are generating a list of interested parties.
