Taste of the Hawaiian Range Less Than a Month Away
The 17th Annual Mealani Taste of the Hawaiian Range and Agricultural Festival is less than a month away – the island’s signature culinary beef event will be held Sept. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort.
During the event, more than 30 Hawaii chefs prepare culinary “tastes” using 100% grass-fed beef, pork, lamb, goat, mutton and wild boar — plus fresh island fruit and vegetables. Attendees can eat at the various culinary stations while visiting vendor booths to meet the farmers and ranchers who grow our island food.
Taste of the Hawaiian Range also affords local food producers the opportunity to meet and network with isle chefs, wholesale buyers, and consumers, thus increasing business prospects for local ranchers and farmers.
While the “Taste,” as it is often called, has grown in popularity over the years, people may be less aware that there are other related activities on the same day leading up the evening’s main event. One of those events is a Grass-fed Beef Cooking 101 Demo with Chef James Babian, executive chef at the Four Seasons Hualalai.
A long-time Hawaii resident, Chef Babian has appeared extensively on television, including the Food Network and the Today Show. He was twice honored as Big Island American Culinary Federation (ACF) Chef of the Year; and has been recognized by the statewide Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers for his exemplary support of local farmers, ranchers, aquaculturists, and fishermen.
The cooking demo will be held on Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. and includes sampling of Chef Babian’s creations.
Tickets for the Taste of the Hawaiian Range are $40 in advance and $60 at the door. Tickets for the Cooking Demo with Chef Babian are $10. However, Taste event managers are giving away 20 tickets to the cooking demo.
To be eligible to win the cooking demo tickets, people can enter via the Taste of Hawaiian Range web site, http://www.tasteofthehawaiianrange.com, or Facebook page. Deadline to enter to win tickets is this Friday, Aug. 31. There is no charge to enter the Cooking Demo sweepstakes. Ticket winners will be announced after Sept. 1.
