Pepe`ekeo Woman Charged With Attempted Burglary

A 20-year-old Pepe`ekeo woman has been charged with attempted burglary after allegedly trying to break into a house last week.

Police said Shaylyn Momi Araw was allegedly observed running from a residence on Maukaloa Street around 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Responding officers found a glass window pane in the house had been damaged.

A check of the neighborhood led to identification of Araw as a suspect in the attempted break-in. Police said she may have been injured in the attempt before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Araw was arrested several hours later in the Pauka`a area of Hilo. She was charged Friday with first-degree attempted burglary, which is a Class B felony.

The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Robert N. Navor of Pepe`ekeo, was arrested but later released without charges.
